Amazing things to know about Ram Navami 2023

“Jai Shri Ram!” these three words hail Lord Ram or fondly called Rama. Ram Navami, which falls on 30 March 2023, Thursday, is a Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Rama. It is on the day of Ram Navami that Lord Rama took human form and thus, the sacred festival is celebrated as his birthday. For the unaware, Lord Ram is the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu. The festival of Ram Navami, which is also the last day of Chaitra Navaratri, celebrates the auspicious occasion of Lord Rama’s birth to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya in Ayodhya.

On Ram Navami day, Ramcharitmanas, Ram Chalisa, Hanuman Chalisa, Sri Rama Raksha Stotra, and Rama Katha recitals or readings of Lord Ram’s stories, which includes the epic book Ramayana are done to make people aware of how Ram lived his life from birth till last in the greatest way possible. Devotees usually pray at home or visit Lord Ram’s temples to participate in bhajans, kirtans, poojas, and aartis.

At some places, Rathayatras also called Shobha yatras, the chariot processions of Rama, Sita, his brother Lakshmana and Hanuman, are taken out. On this day, a few notable places host Ram Navami celebrations in a grand manner such as Ayodhya, Sitamarhi, Bhadrachalam, Kodandarama Temple, Vontimitta, Rameswaram, and Janakpurdham in Nepal. It is observed that people going to Ayodhya’s Rama temple take a dip in the sacred river Sarayu before visiting the temple.

Ram Navami is the symbol of the victory of good over evil. Lord Rama achieved a milestone in his life by defeating the demon king Ravana of Lanka. His triumph over Ravana was to remove evil and negativity from the world by establishing goodness and following sattvic and dharmic principles in life.

Lord Rama is believed to be born on January 10, 5114 B.C. Since Lord Rama was born in the afternoon time, devotees observe fasting, either from midnight to noon or from midnight to midnight. Devotees follow sattvic lifestyle acts such as avoiding eating tamasic foods, and non-vegetarian foods; non-consumption of alcohol; avoiding criticizing or talking ill about others; donating to the poor and needy outside the temples, and performing rituals at home or religious places that engage people to establish peace and happiness in their lives.

Some lessons for everyone from Lord Ram to incorporate into their daily lives:

1) Never give up:

It may take a lot of time to reach your next goal in life. But that doesn’t mean you start feeling low and giving up in your mind. If you might have heard Rama’s stories, you would know how in those olden times, Rama’s wife Sita was held captive by Ravana. However, Rama didn’t lose hope and kept searching for his love by taking all the help he could from his brother Lakshman and friend Hanuman.

2) Remain calm no matter what:

Rama never lost his cool despite going through traumatic experiences in his personal and work life. He was asked to leave his home and job as a king by his parents, he was questioned by his people about his wife’s purity when he returned to rule his kingdom after the exile. He separated from his wife again and lived without seeing the birth and growing up years of his 2 children. However, all those tragic situations never made him lose his temper and go into depression or negative emotions. He took all that came his way in his life’s journey with a calm and positive mindset and kept performing his duties without any complaints or resentment. That’s why in your life, even if you have any small or big problem, don’t feel anxious or threatened but be wise, and use calmness as a weapon to solve all your problems with a smile.
