World’s oldest copy of Bhagavad Gita is being printed using 3D printing technology to last many hundred years
Bangalore, India – July 27, 2024 – Tara Prakashana a not-for-profit trust inaugurated India’s first 3D printing laboratory dedicated to the preservation of manuscripts.
The world’s oldest copy of the Bhagavad Gita is being printed using cutting-edge 3D printing technology. This groundbreaking initiative ensures that the sacred text will be preserved for many hundreds of years, maintaining its integrity and historical significance for future generations.
The 3D printing laboratory at Tara Prakashana is equipped with state-of-the-art technology designed to replicate and preserve ancient manuscripts with unparalleled precision. This innovative approach addresses the urgent need for conserving India’s rich literary heritage in the face of environmental and physical degradation.
Commenting on the occasion, Prof. P R Mukund, Founding Trustee, Tara Prakashana said “3D printing is a disruptive technology that completely alters the preservation of ancient manuscripts. The main advantage is the biodegradable palm leaves substrate is replaced by the everlasting polymer substrate.”
